Why do companies struggle to implement Information Systems?

Hi! Welcome back to another one of my blog posts, hopefully my work is improving with each upload👀. Last week, I briefly mentioned that companies invest in Ireland due to the quality of the technological industry meaning they can implement the use of information systems. This week, I'll be looking into why for some companies the implementation of information systems can be problematic for their business.

Finances

Of course a massive factor when installing information systems is the cost of it. The cost isn't just simply purchasing the systems, other expenses will be maintenance, upgrades, expansions and staff training. None of these will be cheap and companies will have to make the decision if the information systems are actually beneficial or detrimental to the company in the long run. This was seen in 2011 when GE poured billions into asserting itself into the digital software space, which failed in the long run and the CEO was forced out. 💸

Staff

When a company installs in formation systems for the first time, their staff will be unfamiliar will how they work and how to monitor them. Training will have to be provided to all staff in the company and if the staff cannot provide the services the company is looking for, they will have to be replaced. 👴👵

As we advanced into an era of technology, a massive amount of vendors and suppliers of information systems have become available, leading to a massive amount of choice when deciding to implement information systems. If a company does not select a system which is the correct fit for their business plan, the systems will have to be changed for another, which could lead to a massive unbudgeted expense for the company. This was seen with a company called National Grid in New York who had been trying to implement a new SAP system for three years and if they missed there 'go live' date, it would cost 50 million more. They rushed the process and the company faced massive errors in payroll, financial reporting and vendor payments. 📱

Time

Sometimes, companies may underestimate how time consuming the decision to implement information systems may be. The decision will have to be analysed thoroughly, tested until there are no errors or bugs and it runs smoothly, the time and cost for staff to be trained onto the systems and the time it will take to execute a change to the new style of working. This was seen when Invacare moved to a new system and it limited online ordering and caused delays. 🕓

What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments! Sorry for the unusual length, my blogs will be shorter from now on

Search Engine Optimization

Hi Guys, Welcome back to another blog. This week, I will be telling you my ideas on how to optimize web traffic from search engines such as Google or Bing. Increasing Visibility on search engines and the web traffic from the search engine could make or break a business who does not have a huge budget for marketing! 😀 My Tips 1. Write Quality, Original Content ✌ If a reader finds your website and enjoys what they see, finds new original sources, they will return to your site. This will increase your websites traffic and lead to your site being recommended to people who make similar searchers as the original reader.  2. Create Snippets 📍 If someone is searching a question, they don't want to read through page after page of results to find the answer. Creating snippets such as bullet-point lists with simplistic writing could drive your website to the top of the search page leading to more clicks on your website.  3: Organise your Title and Description 📝 Your title and website ...

It's All About Engagement!

Hi Guys, Another blog from me today, this week I'm going to be looking at how to engage my audience with my posts, hopefully its not to late 😉. Grabbing and keeping an audience's attention is critical to successful communication so I will be explaining some ideas I used to keep you engaged with my posts.                                                                 Firstly, I identified my target audience, being college students. It's no secret that no student has the time or willpower to read page after page of my posts, so I like to keep my posts short and to the point instead of writing pages for the sake of it. I feel like my posts being short and efficient is a good way to capture my audiences attention.📢 I also didn't want my posts just to be a white background with a load of black text, so I add images and emojis ...
